Surrogate FAQs

Answers to your most common questions about surrogacy

How much do surrogates get paid?

First-time surrogates earn $65,000 in base compensation, with total packages reaching $71,000-$90,000+ including allowances, bonuses, and benefits. Experienced surrogates start at $70,000 base.

What are the basic requirements to become a surrogate?

You must be 21-38 years old, have had at least one successful pregnancy, be a non-smoker, have a BMI of 30 or under, be a U.S. citizen, must pass a drug test, and not receive government assistance.

How long does the surrogacy process take?

From application to delivery, the entire journey typically takes 15-18 months. The matching process usually takes 1-3 months, followed by medical procedures and the pregnancy itself.

Will I be genetically related to the baby?

No. As a gestational surrogate, you carry an embryo created from the intended parents' or donors' genetic material. You have no genetic connection to the baby.

What if I have had a C-section?

Having had a C-section does not disqualify you. However, we do require that you have had no more than 2 C-sections to ensure your safety during the surrogate pregnancy.

Do I get to choose the intended parents?

Surrogates do not receive intended parent profiles to browse. Instead, our team carefully matches you based on shared values and preferences. If the intended parents are willing, they may share a Dear Surrogate Letter so you can learn more about them before the match meeting. You’ll then have a match meeting to connect and make sure the fit feels right for everyone.

What expenses are covered?

All pregnancy-related medical expenses are covered by the intended parents, including medical bills, maternity clothes, travel to appointments, legal fees, and health insurance. When you have a copay or expense, you forward the receipt to the agency for reimbursement.

Can I be a surrogate if I work full-time?

Absolutely! Many of our surrogates work full-time jobs. We work around your schedule for appointments and provide support to make the process manageable. Lost wages are covered for IVF appointments, prenatal appointments, and delivery.

What support do I receive during the pregnancy?

You'll have a dedicated case manager available 24/7, regular check-ins, and connection with other surrogates. You get personal, individual attention throughout your journey — we're with you every step of the way.

What happens after the baby is born?

After delivery, you'll have a recovery period supported by our team. Many surrogates maintain relationships with the families they helped create. We also provide postpartum support services. Some surrogates choose to provide breastmilk — if elected by the intended parents, you receive $250/week to pump and provide milk.
